The Place to Go to If You Want to Willingly Get Verbally Abused

On my long bucket list of Things to Do Before I Die, one of the things I want to do is visit a restaurant called Dick’s Last Resort.

I first discovered this restaurant years ago online and I was amazed a type of restaurant like that existed.

If you’re not familiar, let me give you the gist.

Dick’s Last Resort is like any other typical American restaurant that serves burgers, steak, and fried chicken.

Their first restaurant opened about 36 years ago by Steve Schiff as a fine dining establishment, which ended up failing because there were too many of those around already.

He decided to give it a second try, but went in the complete opposite direction.

Instead of making the restaurant look fancy, he made it look silly.

And instead of having the staff be nice and polite, they acted rude and abusive.

It’s truly a unique concept. Although they don’t have too many locations throughout the United States, people genuinely enjoy eating there.

They record their experience and upload them on YouTube, and my personal favorite, customers are given paper bags with funny insults written on them to wear as hats.

Of course, it’s not for everyone. I’m sure there are some people out there who are too sensitive for that kind of experience.

However, it’s a good example showing how you can use customer service to give customers, in this case, a very unique experience.

And if you want to learn how to enhance your own customers’ experiences of working with you, I suggest you pick up a copy of Vance Morris’ Tales From the Customer Service Crypt.
