Why I Don’t Talk to People In Suits

I started going to networking events back in 2016. So I’ve been in the game for a while now.

Usually, I go alone so I can force myself to talk to new people and not be that one guy who just sticks with the people they know. But nowadays I go with a friend of mine who’s a great photographer and fashion designer. He was actually the one who took my pictures you see on my website.

As we went to more events together, we noticed a very interesting pattern.

The people we meet and keep in touch wear regular, casual clothing.

The people we meet and choose to never talk to again wear suits because they turn out to be either in the MLM industry or one of those “vetted mentorship circles.”

And as a result, our golden networking rule was born:

Avoid talking to people in suits.

Sounds shallow?

Probably.

Of course, there are exceptions. There are only a handful of suit wearers that I keep in touch with.

I talk a little bit about this in Appendix One of How to Become an Email Titan, which goes into my personal methodology of networking.

Although it may not be directly related to email copywriting, it can help you with list building by bringing in quality, active readers, and possibly future buyers.
