What You Can Learn From the Breakdown of a Social Media Influencer

Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be a social media influencer.

It must be pretty nice income-wise.

Getting paid thousands of dollars to post one thing. Or if you’re on Kim Kardashian’s level of fame, you get paid up to $500,000 just to post once on Instagram endorsing a product.

Must be a pretty great lifestyle, thinking that your financial abundance is secure.

Unfortunately a year ago, 100K+ following Instagram influencer, Jessy Taylor, made the mistake of letting that thought get into her head.

One day, Instagram decided to delete her account after receiving a lot of spam complaints from her trolls and haters. And just like that, her income dropped to $0 overnight.

Soon after, she posted a video of herself crying over the thought of having to return to the 9 to 5 lifestyle. She even went as far as calling the police because she said getting her account deleted felt like “murder.”

Questionable reaction? Perhaps.

But the point is, this is one of the many cases that goes to show what can happen if you solely rely on a platform you have no control over for 100% of your income.

That’s why I think you should use social media only as a source to build your email list rather than making it a foundational pillar of your business.

Do I care if I gain or lose followers on my Instagram page? No.

Do I care about the number of likes I get on my posts? No.

The ONLY metric I care about is how many people visit my profile, click on my bio link, and opt into my email list.

That’s #3 of my list building methods. If you want to learn other list building tips, get the sample chapters of my book, How to Become an Email Titan, and go to page 13 immediately to start learning.
