One of the most common questions I see being asked from zero experience, beginner email marketers in marketing forums is,
“How do I increase my open rate?”
If I weren’t too lazy to create myself an account, I’d reply, “You’re focusing on the wrong thing.”
This goes back to the days where I was immersed in the world of personal development. One of the biggest lessons I learned is to focus on what you can control and not worry about the things you can’t.
Looking for ways to increase your open rates is a prime example of spending your precious energy trying to fix something you have no control over.
You can’t control whether or not your readers open your emails. But here are some things that you do have control over and should focus more on.
Number one, improve your email copywriting. Definitely something you can control. You can either study other email copywriters, buy an email copywriting course, or a book (like How to Become an Email Titan *wink wink*)
Number two, increase how frequently you send emails. In my experience, ever since I started sending emails more often, my open rates have become a lot more consistent.
Number three, kick the inactive readers off your email list. Assuming the same number of people are opening your emails but now you have less people on your list, then mathematically your open rates should increase.
Magical huh?
And that’s what I’m about to do today. We’re approaching the second quarter of the year, which means it’s time to clean up my email list once again.
With that being said, hope you have a relaxing day. And if you’re like me who dedicates Sundays as a day to do anything but work, consider having a relaxing reading time with my book, How to Become an Email Titan.
