I used to watch Friends as a young kid.
It was one of the first American sitcom shows I enjoyed watching, even though I didn’t understand what was going on half the time.
And recently, the Friends Reunion special episode was released so there has been a lot of hype around that.
But I don’t want to talk about that episode itself. I want to focus on one specific cast member.
And he is none other than the one who played the intelligent, yet silly paleontologist, David Schwimmer.
Fun fact:
David Schwimmer originally wasn’t supposed to be a part of the show.
At first, he auditioned for another character. He didn’t end up getting the part, but Kevin Bright, the Executive Producer of Friends, still remembered him.
He was so memorable that the character, Ross Geller, was created based on David Schwimmer’s background.
That’s when he was called back to be on the show and play Ross Geller. And the rest was history.
So the takeaway of this story?
You never know who’s going to remember you when you put yourself out there, and what opportunities that person will lead you to.
David Schwimmer probably went to hundreds of auditions, and the one person who remembered him led him to be a part of one of the most iconic sitcom shows in America.
And in business, putting yourself out there is easier than ever, and there are more ways than ever, especially when you take advantage of the Internet.
One of the ways on that list is by consistent emailing.
