Most Likely the Only Profession Left That’s Automation-proof

Over a year ago, my friend recommended that I watch some videos from a person who goes by Dr. K, a psychiatrist who specializes in addiction. But he also has a YouTube channel where he talks about mental health issues tailored towards the gaming community.

Two weeks ago, he talked about The Great Resignation that started taking place early 2021 and what caused it.

At one point, he talked about how automation has affected companies and their employees.

He gave two examples:

1. Grocery stores implemented self-checkout kiosks which reduced their needs for hiring and keeping cashiers. In this situation, the workers get screwed over and the grocery stores increase their profit margins.

2. He had a client who wrote a script to automate his job. Then when someone found out, he got fired. His employer probably saw the situation as an employee getting paid to do nothing while a robot does all his work for him, so what’s the point in paying someone who isn’t going to work?

Would it have been wise for the employer to ask him to create scripts to automate more jobs within the company?

Can’t say for sure since I don’t know the entire situation.

But it does bring up a good point.

Most jobs can actually be automated nowadays.

Instead of cashiers, we have self-checkout kiosks. Instead of hiring waiters, robot waiters exist now. There are tax softwares you can use instead of accountants. There are even AI writing softwares to semi-automate copywriting.

And yes, I understand there are pros and cons to choosing automation over people.

But the point is, almost everything that people do as jobs can be automated nowadays. But as far as I can think of, there is one profession that cannot be automated, and that is…

Entertainment

And I’m not sure if Dr. K. who said this too, but I heard someone say that everyone should be in the entertainment industry.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that you should quit what you’re doing right now and pursue acting, music, or stand-up comedy. But think of it more as incorporating some form of an entertainment element to what you’re currently doing, and here’s why.

1. It’s a great differentiator for your business.

2. People are constantly craving entertainment and will do anything to avoid boredom.

3. Entertainment is the strongest tool that can grab and hold someone’s attention.

And in copywriting, holding someone’s attention is the most important thing your copy should do because if you can’t even get them to read it, you’ve already lost.
