Ironic “Trends” of Email Marketing

I found a Quora thread that asked the following question,

“What are the latest trends in email marketing?”

One person responded with a long post where he listed and explained some of the trends that he observed.

Let me share some of them with you here:

1. Usefulness

Meaning sending email content that’s more educational versus blatant advertising.

2. Personalization

It doesn’t just mean writing someone’s first name in the subject line, but sending relevant information.

3. Respecting the GDPR policy

In other words: Not adding people’s email to your list unless they gave permission, making it easy for people to unsubscribe, not sending deceptive content, etc.

4. Plain text emails

To make emails look more personal.

To be honest, with the exception of the 4th one, I’m not sure why these are “trending,” which implies that more businesses are doing these now.

Shouldn’t you be sending educational and relevant emails to your subscribers while complying with the GDPR policy from the start?

I just thought I’d share that with you because of how ironic it was to me.
