Back in summer of 2019, I attended a live event called the Art of Success Summit.
I spent three whole days learning personal development from one of the best mindset coaches, David Neagle, and met many successful business owners.
One of them I met was a mindset coach herself. I don’t keep in touch with her as often, but I still have her as a friend on Facebook.
One day, I decided to check up on her to see how she was doing, especially during a time like this. Being the mentally strong woman that she is, she’s doing pretty well. Her business is still going strong, which is great to see. Then I clicked on her website link to see what’s new.
The page loaded and it redirected me to a 404 error page.
“That can’t be right,” I thought.
I spent a few more minutes looking around until I was convinced that her website doesn’t exist anymore.
Does she have something in place to collect email addresses? I hope so.
I see her posting on Facebook everyday.
And she books her discovery calls solely through her Facebook business page. I clicked on her ‘Book Now’ button and saw the email address text box.
Oh thank goodness.
For a few minutes there, I thought she was running her entire business on Facebook, which is something nobody in the business world should be doing.
Just like any other big businesses that exist, they’re only interested in making themselves more money. No matter what new features they release that can be seen as helpful for their users, at the end of the day they’re looking out for their own self-interest.
That’s why you should never solely rely on other platforms to grow your business because one day, they can decide to pull something funny from their sleeve and ruin your business in an instant.
That’s why having your own email list is so important.
