I was once at an event where I met Bill Staniford, also known as the former CEO of PropertyShark.
Great guy. Very funny.
During the talk, he gave his talk about his business journey. One of the most memorable things he said?
He once dated a Russian spy.
But anyways, after his talk, he did a short Q&A session.
My friend, who attended the event with me, asked his own question:
“How do you know whether you should sell your business or keep it?”
It’s a very good question.
I can imagine why business owners may have a hard time letting go of their own businesses.
But Bill thought about the question for a minute and replied with (And I’m heavily paraphrasing),
You should decide based on what your passions are.
Which is a reasonable answer.
A personal example,
I once ran a blog where I taught people how to build their own custom gaming computers and how to improve their gaming performance.
And till this day, I still earn affiliate commissions and the email list still grows on auto-pilot. Though it doesn’t really matter because I abandoned the project.
Why did I stop working on it?
There were several reasons, but one of them was the passion died out. There would be no point in working on something if it’s not fun for me anymore. I’d just be miserable.
As for email copywriting, I’m just getting started.
I’m sure you’re still in the business you’re in because you too, are passionate about it and you love to help your clients.
And there’s no better way to express those things than through email.
