Do I Look Like a Woman?

The other day I logged into my LinkedIn account, mainly to see if there are any connection requests I need to take care of.

Turns out, there was one that I think is worth sharing with you.

It was a request from a direct response copywriter with a message attached that said this:

To be honest, part of me isn’t really surprised. There have been multiple instances throughout my life where people would ask, “Isn’t that a girl’s name?” when they learn my name.

But this is LinkedIn…where you can see my photo.

Did I accidentally choose female when I created my account?

Do I look like a woman in my photo?

I don’t know, but I decided to click on the URL and snoop around. I scrolled down to the FAQs and saw this one Q&A:

Q: Is this group really women only?

A: Yes. Cis and trans women are welcome.

And after reading that, I couldn’t help but think, “Did this woman possibly think I was trans?”

It’d be interested to know why this person thought I was a woman, but I don’t think I’ll ever get that answer.

Jokes aside, I’m sure they run a great women’s copywriting group and wish everyone in it much success.

Though, this does remind me of another instance.

During the peak of the pandemic, I was using a networking app called Shapr and began a text conversation with a man, probably in his late 50s, early 60s, and I think he was a lawyer too?

Anyways, after the typical intro spiel, he asked me, “You are a woman?”

….Long story short, I deleted the app. I realized the quality of the people on that app wasn’t at the level that I hoped.

Thankfully, I was introduced to an AI-powered platform that schedules virtual one-on-one meetings.

Great networking tool if you don’t feel like leaving your house. You can access it using my invitation link below.

Personally I haven’t used it in a while, but I still recommend it to anyone who’s looking for new ways to network.
