Let’s talk psychology.

I recently listened to an interview where someone was talking about his terrible experience in Dan Lok’s High Ticket Closer Program. After listening to him, it just sounded like he didn’t put in the effort to get results he wanted and refused to take responsibility.

Long story short, he wasted $26,000, but that’s not the point.

The person shared something that I found really interesting.

At the end of the seven week High Ticket Closer Program, Dan congratulated his students and said, “Before I let you go, let me ask you. Am I just your sifu for seven weeks, or am I your sifu for a lifetime?”

During those seven weeks, the students felt like they bonded with Dan and felt obligated to continue following him. So they replied, “Of course sifu! We’re devoted.”

Dan then offered a continuation program called “Inner Circle.” And the students immediately signed up.

So what just happened?

Dan used the concepts of commitment and consistency to create one powerful persuasion tactic. The students already showed a high level of commitment by signing up for the High Ticket Closer Program. To be consistent with that commitment, they signed up for the Inner Circle Program.

That last part is key! No one wants to be seen as inconsistent; it’s an undesirable trait in society, and that’s how Dan is able to make so many sales from his students.

Indeed it’s a powerful tactic, but you know what they say about power:
“With great power comes great responsibility.”

You can definitely use this to make more sales for your business too. But please, only use it for the betterment of your audience. Don’t manipulate them into giving you their hard-earned money for something that won’t even help them.

With that said, here’s how you can apply this to get your audience slowly committed to you:

1. Give them a valuable freebie in exchange for their email.

2. Offer a low-cost entry level product.

3. Sell them your core product.

4. Upsell more products that compliment your core product.

Hope this helps.

Back in my teenage years, I never understood why guys buy bank-breaking, expensive engagement rings and wedding rings for their ladies. I always thought it was a financially irresponsible thing to do.

As I’m writing this, I just read that the average amount spent on an engagement ring is around five grand! My goodness, and let’s not even go into the average cost of the wedding itself….

$65,824!

Man…I can buy a car with that money, or use it as a down payment for a house. Even when my ex-girlfriend talked to me about engagements rings and all that good stuff, I always looked at her like she had six heads. But what happened in summer of 2019 changed my mind about this whole thing.

I was in Atlanta for the Art of Success Summit hosted by the one of the greatest business and mindset coaches, David Neagle.

He was hosting a Q&A session about a new program he was launching and someone asked him, “Why are the prices of your programs so expensive?”

And he replied, “Because…it shows that you’re committed…”

At that moment, I finally understood why people spend so much money on wedding stuff. To show the ultimate commitment of two people willing to be together for the rest of their lives.

Let this be a lesson to carry over to your business, . Don’t be afraid to charge high prices for the products or services you offer. Sure you might drive away more people than you’re used to, but you’ll also attract the most committed ones. And those are the best people you’ll work with.

Speaking of which, if you want to level up your marketing force and are truly committed to doing so, download my free e-book, “5 Steps to Create Money Generating Emails.”

https://EllisenWang.com/free-ebook

One day I logged into my LinkedIn account and I got a connection request from a random person whose name I won’t mention. He seemed like a good guy and then I saw his title….

“Partner at New York Life Insurance Company.”

At that moment, I knew exactly why he wanted to connect with me. So I decided to play along and have a little fun.

He started our conversation off with this:

“Ellisen, I’m looking to build my network, and came across your profile. I’m a Partner at NY Life and I have opportunities available with a fast track to Management. We have a few common connections, and I thought that there could be an opportunity to work together at some point.”

As soon as I read “opportunities available with a fast track to management,” a big red flag went up. He was trying to recruit me into his little cult. Little did he know that I used to work in the insurance industry, so I’m fully aware of how the business works.

So I responded with this:

“Good to meet you, *name removed*! Happy to discuss how we can work together.

However,
1. If you’re selling insurance to me, I’m already covered.
2. If you’re asking me to join New York Life, I’m not interested.

Any other topic, I’m down to discuss.

Talk to you soon.”

And I never heard from him again. I’m willing to bet my life savings that if I hadn’t mentioned anything after ‘however,’ he would’ve tried to recruit me. But because I was extremely direct with him, I saved myself time and energy from building a relationship that wasn’t even going to work out in the first place.

That’s why, honesty is TRULY the best policy.

When it comes to business (and even dating), it acts as the ultimate filtration system. Attracting all the wonderful customers/dates while repelling the shitty ones. It’s also a great psychological sales tactic. For example:

When you’re selling a product, talk about the negatives before going into the positives. Your audience will see you as a trustworthy person because you’re showing them that you have nothing to hide. No intention to deceive customers.

So do yourself a favor, save your time, energy, and headaches from crappy customers by being brutally honest.

Speaking of being straightforward, I blocked off some time to talk to you if you need any help writing persuasive sales emails.

Use my link below.

https://EllisenWang.com/schedule

English is one of the richest languages in the world. With over 170,000 words available, the number of ways to communicate and express yourself are limitless.

Although a lot of the 170,000 words have the same meaning, they don’t at the same time. Let me explain.

Each word comes with its own emotional power. So even though two words can have the same literal meaning, it can make people feel different emotions.

Here are some examples:

1. Pay vs Invest
When you hear the word pay, it tends to come with a negative emotion. When you hear that word, you think of paying your bills, student loans, or taxes.
The word invest tends to have a more positive ring to it. When you hear that word, you think of putting money into something and expecting a positive return in the future.

2. Ally vs Associate
Both words have the same meaning, but two different images pop in your mind. When you hear ally, you think of people uniting in a battlefield to take down their common enemy. However when you hear associate, you think of a professional job title. Maybe you think of a worker at the bottom of the corporate hierarchy in a financial institution.

3. Cheap vs Inexpensive
When you hear the word cheap, several things can come to your mind….bootlegged products, low quality, or Mr. Krabs. When you think of inexpensive, you picture a decent quality product with a reasonably low price tag.

The lesson for today,

Choose the words that come with the emotions you want your readers to feel.

If you want your readers to sell your products using fear or guilt, use negative words.
If you want your readers to feel inspired and enthusiastic, use positive words.

Of course, the right words won’t always come easy. That’s why I always have a Thesaurus open when I write emails and I suggest you do the same as well. Or you can always ask yours truly for guidance.

https://ellisenwang.com/schedule

Ah…New York City.

AKA the Big Apple.

The city where skyscrapers are so tall you gotta break your neck to look at them.
Where the people are notorious for being impatient and disrespectful.
And where the infamous public transportation company, the MTA, resides.

Speaking of, usually when I’m on the subway, the conductors always sound like they’d rather be anywhere else but at work. They all sound monotonous and irritated, especially when people hold the doors and delay the subway from departing.

But once in a while, I come across this one conductor in particular. Whenever he talks on the P.A. system, he actually sounds enthusiastic, kind of like how Awkwafina did her subway announcements. He adds in his own personality, and I actually enjoy listening to him.

This is something more people should apply to their email marketing.

Just because you’re in business, doesn’t mean you have to talk professionally boring. Add some of your own personality into your writing. Maybe add some catchphrases you would say in-person, a cringy joke, or express your opinion on something.

The point is, when your readers get to know you more as a person, they’ll start to like you more. And that’s what you want to work towards.

The more people like you, they’re more likely to do business with you.

“People only do business with people they know, like and trust,” said a random speaker I listened to at a networking event.

Remember that.

Oh, and if you ever need extra help writing fun emails for your readers, you know where to find me:

https://ellisenwang.com/schedule

I went to a networking event a little while ago with my friend. And a woman approached us, said hi and immediately gave us her business card. She didn’t even ask for our names.

Has that ever happened to you?

What a terrible mistake that person made, and what a waste of business cards. When people do that to me, it makes me think that they don’t care to learn about me or my business. They’re just interested in making a quick sale.

And that’s a big mistake I see people make when it comes to emailing new subscribers. They go straight into the pitch. Desperate to make a sale. But all that does is drive them away. These people don’t bother connecting with their readers, or show they can provide some kind of value. They want that instant gratification, and that’s why they struggle.

The lesson to this?

Think long-term. Build a relationship with your audience whether they’re email subscribers or people you meet at networking events. Treat them like new friends rather than potential customers. When you GENUINELY (And I cannot stress that enough!!) connect with them and form that trust, selling to them becomes a lot easier. And when you do it right, they’ll become your life-long supporters.

One of the best ways to build relationships with new readers is to set up an automated welcome sequence. Once they sign up to your list, they’ll automatically get valuable emails you pre-wrote and set up.

Also keep in touch with them on a regular basis. Send weekly or even daily valuable emails to them to continue that relationship. If you want to learn more about this, feel free to set up a time to talk to me.

Here’s the link,

https://EllisenWang.com/schedule

Now go out there and make some new friends!

You know what really grinds my gears?

Scholarly articles
Corporate emails and
College textbooks.

What do they all have in common? They’re all boring to read! Why are they boring to read? You probably already know the answer by now. But if you don’t, it’s because they’re not written in a conversational tone. By the way, props to you if you read a college textbook from cover to cover. You must have a god-like attention span.

It sucks that we were taught to write formally throughout all those years in school. But once we get into the real world, it’s nothing like that! And some people don’t catch on to the fact that formal writing isn’t the way to go.

Then that mentality carries over in business. And when they’re writing emails, blog posts, website copy, or anything else that involves writing, they don’t see the results they were expecting.

So if you haven’t been doing so already, start writing the way you talk. Here are some reasons why it’s the better way to write….

1. It’s easier to write. You can simply have a conversation with yourself and write down everything you say. That way, you write faster and you overcome writer’s block.
2. It’s more fun. Not only is it more fun to write, but it’s more fun for your subscribers to read.
3. Throw the rules of grammar into a pit of lava. “You can’t begin a sentence with the word ‘and’,” nagged my high school English teacher. Well I just did in this email…three times! So take that, Ms. Simmons!
4. More readership. After all, that’s the ultimate goal. Especially when you’re writing a sales email or letter.

If you’d like help writing fun, engaging and valuable emails for your readers, feel free to schedule a call with me using the link below.

https://ellisenwang.com/schedule

All of a sudden, an advertisement started playing and I heard this:

“Let’s face it. Quitting smoking is f**king hard.”

I couldn’t believe my ears. That was the first time I ever heard an advertisement that cursed. I immediately stopped what I was doing, snapped my head to the iPad and listened to the ad.

After I processed what happened and went back to eating my sandwich, I started thinking… Props to the person who came up with the idea to start the ad off like that! It did a great job grabbing my attention.

Many online ads I see or emails I get aren’t as good at getting my attention than that quit smoking ad, which is a big problem for businesses.

When people don’t pay attention to ads or sales emails that businesses put out, they’re not going to make any sales and their advertising dollars might as well be flushed down the toilet.

So the lesson I want you to learn today,

Write emails that grab your readers’ attention and make them want to read.

And don’t be afraid to take an unorthodox approach. I always see people looking for headline formulas or subject line templates. Yes they work until you start relying on them and use it too often.

Remember:

More attention = more engagement = more sales

If you need some attention-grabbing emails written, I’m here to help.

https://EllisenWang.com/schedule

Whenever I go to the gym, I always see at least one big dude so buff that his neck no longer exists. I’ve met couples who have been together with their spouse for 40+ years. I hear life stories of successful business owners who were once dirt poor.

All these people have gotten to where they are because of one simple reason.

Consistency.

It doesn’t matter what goal or dream you’ve set for yourself. If you work towards it everyday, you will reach it.

And that’s a lesson you should apply to your email marketing, .

The biggest mistake businesses can do is be inconsistent with their email marketing. Sometimes I see emails from companies I don’t even remember. Why? Because they haven’t been in touch with me.

If you consistently nurture and engage with your readers, then you’ll start seeing more sales coming in.

When you constantly keep in touch with your audience, they will remember you. And when they have a problem that you have the solution to, you will be the first person they will think of.

Keep that in mind.

But that’s the reality. Think about those typical company about pages.

Do you think people care about things like….

• How long the company has been in business?
• How many employees they have?
• Or who founded the company?

No!

People really care about is how you can help them, and that’s how you should be writing your emails.

80% of your email letter should be interesting, educational, and/or entertaining information. In other words, majority of the letter should be about your customers.

The last 20% should be a soft sell of your products. Just two or three sentences is good enough. No need to make a long, aggressive sales pitch.

Now go out there and write some awesome emails!

Or if you need help writing your emails, you can schedule a time to talk using the link below.

https://EllisenWang.com/schedule
