I consider myself to be a fairly quiet person, especially in my younger years. Back in high school, there were multiple times where I went through entire days without talking to a single soul. And the times where I was involved in conversations, I’d just listen.
You can learn a lot by listening. I’m not just talking about getting to know other people, but how people are in social situations too.
And I noticed several things that get people engaged in conversations:
Number one, common interests. When people hear other people talk about a topic they’re familiar with or interested in, they’ll want to get involved in the conversation or at least listen in.
Number two, problems. For some reason, people love to talk about problems. To be more accurate, other people’s problems, and sometimes their own problems too. I’m sure we all have that one friend or family member with the biggest mouth and just loves to talk poop about the people they hate. And when you hear that, it’s hard to not listen, especially if they’re talking about someone you hate also.
Number three, Likeable people. It’s fun to have conversations with people that we like. Whether it’s in a romantic or platonic way, we naturally want to be around those people.
Why am I telling you these things?
Because if you want people to be engaged with your emails, it’s no different than engaging them in an in-person conversation.
The principles remain the same. The only difference is you’re talking to them through the Internet.
Makes sense?
I’ll go more into this in my upcoming book that I FINALLY came up with a title idea for…
How to Become an Email Titan
I won’t make it final just yet. I’ll let it sit for a few days. But I do like email titan though, I want to keep that. It sounds nice when you say it out loud.
Just giving you a small update. That’s all for now.
