There was a video a friend of mine watched.
I don’t exactly remember what the video was, but there was a phrase from it which was,
“There’s no such thing as true freedom. No matter what you do, you’re always going to be bound by something.”
A pretty bold statement indeed, but it’s true.
Think about it.
There are laws and regulations that prevent us from being able to do certain things like committing crime, obviously, but also things like creating monopolies.
There are also existing laws that are more on the ridiculous side.
For example,
In Alabama, it’s illegal to dress up as religious clergy members for Halloween, including priests, nuns, ministers, etc.
Moving onto the online space…
When it comes to social media, you can’t just say whatever’s on your mind otherwise you’ll be earning a one way ticket to exile. Also, word on the cyber street is that there’s been a lot of censorship going on.
The same goes for email too.
In the past, I’ve said that when it comes to your email marketing platform, you have more control over what you do.
And while that is true, email marketing service providers do have the power to ban your account. If that happens, and you don’t have your email list backed up, you’re done for.
Or what about sending physical mail?
Anyone can send mail. As far as I know, postal services can’t blacklist people from sending mail. But like the Do Not Call registry, there’s a Do Not Mail registry.
So where am I going with this?
Part of me is wondering the same thing. But if I had to give an answer, it’s that there are millions of different things that can happen that’ll wipe you out.
There’s nothing that’s guaranteed, except for three things:
Death, taxes, and your ability to produce.
If you maintain your ability to produce, then you’re surely able to bounce back from whatever setback you come across.
