When Potential Clients Say My Services Are Too Expensive

Yes, I’ve gotten that response a handful of times in the past, but they fail to realize certain things.

For example,

I was having a discussion with a potential client, who was one of the head’s of a small speech therapy business.

From what they told me, they needed help marketing their services online and were looking to partner with more therapists.

I submitted a proposal along with my pricing.

She responded by saying that my price is too high and asked if the work I’d be doing would be time-consuming.

The short answer: Yes.

As for the slightly longer answer: The two main things I offered were creating email campaigns and writing SEO optimized articles for their website.

Keep in mind that I’m unfamiliar with the therapy industry, which means, I’d have to do a lot of work to familiarize myself with the industry before I even write a single letter in an email or article.

Doing that market market research is a big task in and of itself. It would take more time doing that than writing the actual content. Not to mention planning the content strategy for the articles and the strategy for the email campaigns.

In the end, we decided we weren’t a good fit for each other and parted ways.

And life goes on, eventually, we’ll come across new people to work with, which brings me to this.

Once in a while, I take new applicants for my email copywriting services. Everything from product/service launch email campaigns to cold email campaigns, affiliate campaigns, newsletters (Not the design part), and autoresponder sequences.

And sometimes I get requests to help with other projects related to:

Sales letters

Website copy

Case studies

Search engine optimized blog posts and articles

I don’t mind doing those too. However, I draw the line at anything social media related.
