Gene Schwartz’s New Montana Marketing Lesson

Undoubtedly, traveling is one of the greatest life experiences you can ever gain.

But unfortunately, my travel experience is very limited. It mostly consists of:

Family vacations to some of the east coast states. I don’t remember too much since I was young at the time, which is also the reason why I never understood parents taking their children on trips when they’re still toddlers.

But moving on.

I’ve also been to Toronto, and most recently, Chicago and Atlanta.

Recently, I had a conversation with a friend about traveling and we were talking about the different countries we’d like to visit in the future.

I pointed out that I’ve never travelled international before, including my own home country.

It’s a bit sad since it’s a main part of my identity. But one day I will visit.

Actually, this reminds me of something one of the great copywriters, Eugene Schwartz, said in one of his speeches. He lived in Manhattan, but he was originally from New Montana. He made sure that he never lost touch with his roots.

Similarly, if you want your marketing to be successful, you always need to keep in touch with your market. Specifically, he said to always spend at least two hours per week with your market, otherwise you’re finished.

That’s why I dedicated a chapter in How to Become an Email Titan to teach different ways to do thorough market research so you can write emails that your readers will resonate with, and eventually buy from.
