When I attended the great business coach, David Neagle’s, Art of Success Summit, I met a lot of amazing people. One of them was a successful businesswoman, who’s a very interesting character and very fun to talk to.
A couple of months ago, she invited me to a 14 day challenge Facebook group where it featured a lot of big names. Specifically, Dean Graziosi, Marie Forleo, Todd Herman, and Prince EA. Each day, one of those people would do a virtual talk teaching the viewers the topic they specialize in.
For the first few days, I was pretty active in the group. I attended the talks and interacted with the other group members.
But before the challenge ended, I dropped out and left the group, and there were several red flags that led me to this decision.
First red flag:
At the beginning of the challenge, the host promised that he and any of the speakers wouldn’t try to sell anything to the viewers. Halfway through the challenge, the host said that he was selling the replays of the speakers’ talks.
Contradiction at its finest.
Second red flag:
Their rule of “No Negativity.” Obviously, people who posted hate speech, racist comments and whatnot got booted. But people have also gotten kicked out of the group for asking questions that, I guess, were seen as negative. Luckily, my timing was perfect and managed to read some of the questions before they got deleted. If you ask me, some of them were perfectly legitimate.
And the third red flag:
Well, this is more of a personal preference rather than a warning sign. But the host’s personality didn’t fit me. Personally, I prefer to listen to people who don’t talk at the top of their lungs and aren’t so overly positive to the point where you question whether or not they’re part of some cult.
That’s one of the biggest things that the experts I follow and people I associate with have in common.
This is proof that your personality is one of the reasons why your clients, customers, and readers follow you.
Which is one of the reasons why I believe email is so great. You’re able to make money by being yourself.
And my book, How to Become an Email Titan, teaches you how to do just that.
