2.6 Millions Followers and Still Failed to Sell 36 Pieces of Merch

I heard from a little email birdie that there’s an Instagram influencer who tried to launch a merch line last year and failed miserably.

Here’s the story:

There’s a young woman who rose to social media fame with an Instagram following of over 2.6 million people. She started working with a company to help her create her own merch line.

The deal was in order to continue working together, she needed to sell a minimum of 36 pieces, which she couldn’t achieve.

According to what I dug up myself and what other people have said, there were two main reasons why it failed:

1. There was no proper brand built.

Her Instagram profile looks no different than an ordinary person’s profile. The only difference is the amount of followers.

2. There was no promotion strategy.

There were little to no photos of her wearing her own merch line and the line’s Instagram account was blank. And as far as letting her followers know that her merch is launching, apparently she only promoted it once or twice.

Aside from that, she also said, and I quote,

“…I was getting such good feedback that people loved it & were gonna buy it. No one has kept their word so now the company won’t be able to send out the orders to people who actually bought sh*t…”

Another huge mistake: Not realizing that people’s actions speak louder than words.

Now I won’t be like everyone on the Internet and attack her. Attempting to launch a merch line at her age is respectable as is.

Hopefully, she’ll learn and succeed when she attempts again in the future.

The bottom line is, having a large following, or in the case of email, having a large email list, means nothing if nobody engages with or buys from you.

But if you learn and implement what I teach in How to Become an Email Titan, you’ll definitely see more engagement with your emails, which means more people buying from you eventually.
